Untitled Wound, 2021

It all started when telling my mum I wish I had never been born. This is probably the worst statement a daughter could make to her mother, I felt great regret and relief. We all came from the body of our mother, the womb. The truth is also cruel, that we came from the wound.
The wound created from delivering a new life, the opening of the womb and the ripping of the vagina. In my opinion the vagina is almost like an open wound in and of itself (layered, soft, fragile and firm) and can never be closed.
Yue Zheng
Jessie Yue Zheng aims to explore the intricacies surrounding authenticity and intimacy (in to me see). She asks her work to reach under the lines of performance in search of 0 (a groundless realm where all routes are without contradiction, truth). Through her insight of pain, she explores uncomfortable psychological states in search of personal and collective healing. This emotional rollercoaster in its polarity is broken down for public exploration. The power of the work is founded in its vulnerability. Ultimately the works poetic nature aims to push us deep within ourselves in search of our own black holes and inner knowledge.
