Disruption, 2021
Grease proof paper, cotton and silk
210 x 85cm
This is my body to scale – showing each mark that has pierced my body, recorded as it is my life's journey, a memory and place holder. As I sewed into the paper it made me consider these marks – all rupturing the skin - some for vanity - earrings, tattoos and some for medical necessity and some that ended in the joy of welcoming my children to the world. When my leg was crushed, my arm punctured with vaccination drugs, giving blood and injury when I did something stupid, all the markings of life and survival.

Exploring trauma, women and family connections, control and the domestic are central to the work I make; in relation to universal debates on feminism, home, gender and identity. Expectations of the role of women and the pressures of juggling and keeping life and soul together are ongoing themes. Often kitsch, tongue in cheek and playful the work sticks it’s tongue out at life’s hardships and as a coping mechanism to burden. Work is currently on show at The War Horse Memorial, Royal Ascot and has been shown at The National Trust, The RSPB, Earley Station, Trowbridge Town Hall and, on permanent display at South Western Rail, The Sculpture Park Farnham and Frimley Park Hospital. Co-editor of Haus-a-rest platform and Zine. www.haus-a-rest.com
