The Corals of your Lungs, 2021
Corals, thread, metal bracket

89x45x30 cm

Bones and corals are material cousins composed of calcium carbonate which will eventually become stone. We are are all autobiographical trace fossils here.  This work  is an attempt to explore the interconnections of our physical and planetary bodies to summons the notion of our transcorporeal implications in the bodies of others - human and other animal, but also oceanic, geological and meteorological.  Found corals, bleached and damaged by the rising temperatures of the ocean - are darned and repaired by  the artist so they  form hybrid creatures, where interconnectedness of surgical, anthropological and art practice perspectives reminds us about our possibly cruel relationships with other non-human bodies.

Margo Trushina

Margo Trushina was born in Moscow, Russia  and currently lives and works in London, UK. Her work has been extensively exhibited in London and internationally:  at the Museum of Modern Art (Turin, Italy), the 5th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art (Moscow, Russia) , SFER IK (Tulum, Mexico) and many others.︎ In 2020 she was the winner of the Ruinart Art patronat grant (2020), awarded at the occasion of the Cosmoscow Art Fair.

Her artistic practice engages with the newest discoveries in the fields of neuroscience and environmentally conscious practices. Current challenges - such as the melting glaciers, the extinction of plant species, the mutation of animals or pandemics , and how humanity is called to coexist with these realities - become the territory of an artistic exploration and alchemic process of transformation. The topics are articulated through the prism of personal bodily experiences and the aesthetic investigation of their possible reception, resulting in the creation of hybrid sculptures and living installations.
